What?

  • You wanted to order the book?
  • Take the class?
  • Buy the special powder?

You should know by now we don’t do a lot of hand holding here at TurnMaker Media.

If it’s simple and it works, our job is to let you know.

The 80/20 Rule works folks … you WILL lose weight!

“If you are stuck in an endless cycle of fad diets and all their empty promises, impossible eating regimens, fasts, special pills etc … you … MUST … try 80/20 right now!”

Stop the Madness: 80/20 Weight Loss to the Rescue

Let’s take a wild stab at describing the wild roller coaster diet ride you can’t seem to get off of:

You pay 24.00 bucks at Barnes and Noble for yet another fad diet book.

After two flawless days of regimented eating you have a moment of weakness (a cookie perhaps).

You start torturing yourself for the infraction.

The downward pressure of self loathing, guilt and failure begin.

All manner of logic and reason are ignored …

The rest of the cookies are retrieved from the trash and you proceed to inhale those cookies … like … it was your last meal earth!

Sound familar?

Don’t worry ..

It’s not that you have no self control to lose weight.

Far from it.

Why we can’t seem to lose weight:

Your bodies natural survival mechanism’s have kicked in.

All sorts of things– out of your control– were going on mentally, physically and biologically.

“Those kinds of diets –based on deprivation — turned you into a starving human animal– with all the rational and discipline of someone who is drowning!”

That’s why only 5% of people who do these radical diets- based on deprivation- actually lose weight.

(they usually put it right back on btw)

Can I tell you something?

Depriving yourself from the joy of eating foods you love, is just plain wrong … and … is the very reason why you cannot lose weight.

[insert collective gasp]

Not kidding.

In fact, just the other day I sat down and had me a slice of New York Cheesecake drizzled in a raspberry sauce.

It was not a big deal though …

Because I’m an 80/20 eater:

  • 1. I chose to eat that Cheesecake
  • 2. I earned it
  • 3. It was wonderful
  • 4. No regrets. No remorse.

Yep …

A growing number of us 80/20s have managed to consistently lose weight– and keep it off– simply by eating well most of the time and enjoying the food we love some of the time.

Lose weight with 80/20 Rule Logic:

Crazy crash diets that have you on and off the caloric wagon is too hard on your body.

Losing weight is a matter of balance, consistency, moderation and time.

The old adage is if you reduce your caloric intake by (X) you will lose (Y) pound/s each week and a total of (Y) each year. And while that may be true. It is more likely that these figures are overstated.

You can just as easily lose weight by improving how well you eat the majority of your week/s–over a longer period of time.

Bottom Line: Eat clean, natural, good foods, most of the time and selectively indulge some of the time. You will lose weight.

Note: Check out the Minus 5 post we did a few weeks ago, to find out how easy it is to eat clean, natural, good foods.

80/20 Rule Extra Bonus:

A. It’s fun, easy and guilt free.

B. The more you get used to eating well 80% of the time …

The more you will:

  • 1. Feel full for longer and longer periods of time
  • 2. Have more energy to be active, thereby, increasing your metabolism slowly and naturally
  • 3. Realize the junk food- you used to eat- makes you feel crappy and you start making healthier choices
  • 4. Be more Social. (for me, fad diets meant being a hermit)

A long term benefit of 80/20 Rule Eating is re-establishing that healthy connection between you and your food. With-out all the negative self talk!

Lose weight with 80/20 Rule Helpful Hints:

  • Flexibility: Your choices are A. Eat well 80% of each and every day B. Eat well 100% of each of 5 days and indulge (within reason) the other two days C. A combo of both.
  • Choose wisely: Make your indulgences count! Listen, if it’s a choice between the donut’s that someone brought into work; or a nice dinner and a glass of wine with friends on Saturday? I’ll take door #2 every time.
  • Stop the Madness: You’ve heard the old saying; “Everything in moderation … Including moderation? Read and Heed.
  • Plan Well: It’s tough to be 100% compliant 100% of the time. That’s why you have room to indulge. Plan those indulgences. Make them count.
  • Tortoise and the Hare: This is a Marathon, not a sprint. Don’t get to crazy about instant results. This is something you will be doing over a lifetime. Ease into it.
  • Balance: Remember, how you eat the majority of your week will determine your final outcome over the course of a year.
  • Experiment: Eating well 80% of the time is not a hard number to hit. In my 20s I could get away with 70/30. I’m more of a 90/10 now and doing fine. Thank-you 🙂
  • Work with your Doctor: Always talk to your Doctor about changing your eating habits to be sure your choices do not conflict with pre existing conditions and/or medications. Be aware that some medications make it almost impossible to lose weight no matter what you do.
  • No Guilt please: If you are feeling guilty, you are missing the whole point of 80/20
  • Onward and Upward: Don’t beat yourself up after your indulgence meals. Speaking from experience it’s easy to throw away 2-3 days worth of good effort and binge eat. This is why 80/20 works. Indulge and get immediately back on course.
  • Lifestyle: 80/20 is a Lifestyle, not a diet. Diet’s are restrictive, uncompromising, unhealthy and counter intuitive

Bon Appetite!
