MINUS 5: Here’s the deal about weight-loss

While the rest of the world is mired in the latest diet fad … and … the health industry still employing the low calorie curriculum … we continue … to get … fatter …

… Why? …

Because in the last couple of decades 5 ingredients have infiltrated and literally hijacked the American Diet making weight loss almost impossible.

Here are those 5 things:

1. HFSC High Fructose Corn Syrup

2. Trans Fat/Seed Oils as found in highly processed foods

3. Fake Sugar

4. Highly Processed anything

5. Sodium

Minus 5: How it Works

  • Look for these five ingredients in your daily eating and then SLOWLY start ramping them down.
  • Lose weight.

That’s it!

LOGIC: Minus 5 weight loss

A healthy body is a body that can digest and eliminate the food you put into it. An unhealthy body-full of acid and inflammation cannot. Your body spends 70% of it’s energy digesting food. Why make it even more difficult ingesting chemical compounds that it does not know what to do with?

Effective weight loss comes down to choosing the right foods … and … possibly making friends with your kitchen again. Prepare your snacks and main courses with REAL ingredients that have the LEAST amount of artificial or processed ingredients.

“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food …”

-Hippocrates

A closer look at the 5 foods and ingredients that make weight loss difficult:

HSFC

Yes, HFSC is derived from corn; but it is far from a natural ingredient.

You could not make it yourself … yet … it is found in most of the things you are eating.

Problem is …

While it is good for the food manufactures bottom line; it is very bad for your waistline.

HFCS messes with your hormones by thwarting the production of insulin and leptin

(your appetite “off” mechanism is disconnected)

You could drink Mountain Dew and eat Cookies all day long and never feel full. Yet, think about the home cooked dinner –like Thanksgiving–so full you could bust!

Right?

Trans Fat/Seed Oils

Trans Fat is bad for you. So bad, the FDA finally said; no more in 2020!

However, food manufactures can claim "trans-fat free" as long as it does exceed 0.5 grams.

In the mean time, stay the hell away from this stuff.

Trans Fat is formed by adding Hydrogen to vegetable oil. It’s very hard to digest and is known to cause inflammation and inhibit the production of serotonin and dopamine.

Not to mention retarding the action of your muscles to recruit glucose as an energy supply.

How about seed oils?

One word: Inflamation.

In highly processed foods, seed oils should be avoided.

Even in restaurants the oils they use are cheaper, refined seed oils and not good for you.

Seed oils- or cooking oils -as found in your kitchen should be used in moderation.

The best solution is cook at home more with simple, natural ingredients. Olive oil or butter is a wiser choice.

Fake Sugar

Fake sugar actually stimulates your appetite, making you crave carbs even more than you already were!

Messes with your metabolism too.

We could fill page after page of studies linking fake sugar to all sorts of illness and disease; but we won’t.

To damn depressing.

Just don’t fall for the “This is better for you because it has less calories” schtick.

Processed food

If it reads like a CSI toxicology report don’t eat it!

Most people –including me– noticed an almost immediate difference in health and well being by reducing the amount of processed food.

More energy, sense of well being and regularity are among the good effects.

Who does not want that?

Yeah, we know … “The frozen chicken dinner has only 100 calories.”

But …

Look at the ingredients.

You cannot even pronounce half of the chemicals … and … chicken is like the last ingredient listed?

Sodium

The more salt you ingest the more water is required to balance it out.

You’ll prolly lose a couple of pounds of water weight just by reducing sodium. But remember, that was a couple of pounds of water pressing on your heart, lungs and other organs, making it more difficult to breath and pump blood.

Never a good thing.

Besides–you can admit it–what do you drink when you have salty food?

That’s right … sugary HFCS drinks.

Viscious cycle for sure.

Note: Be prepared –after you reduce sodium–to wonder how you tasted anything BUT salt!

BONUS: Minus 5 weight loss

Just try it and then be amazed at all your different ailments and maladies that begin to disappear … while you are also shedding the pounds!

Your Welcome.

Helpful Hints:

  • 1. Spend more time in the produce section at the grocery store
  • 2. Just because we said to reduce these ingredients (opting for more natural selections) does not mean you throw your good sense out the door. Moderation, variety and sensible portions is key. See the TurnMaker 80/20 Rule post
  • 3. Make it an adventure. Go to the Farmers Markets and re connect with REAL food.
  • 4. Don’t worry about calorie counting. Just reduce the amount of time spent around these five felons
  • 5. Moderation and variety is the key (see#2)
  • 6. This is a lifestyle. Not a Diet! Take your time and ease into this slowly and consciously.
  • 7. Consult your Doctor about the implications of ANY diet or eating regimens. Doctors are our friends and can help you navigate the complexities of Lifestyle changes and the impact it may have on your pre existing conditions/medications
  • 8. My favorite Minus 5 altenatives: Fried Egg Sandwich, steel cut Oatmeal, a thick and juicy Fillet Mignon, plump BBQ chicken breast, spinach salad (my girlfriend makes awesome salads–lot’s of variety) omelettes, real lemonade, water, coffee, peanut butter toast using Ezekiel Cinnamon Bread. I could go on and on (might have to be special post)

Bon apetit!
