SUCCESS SECRET: Law of Fatal Attraction

In our continued effort to make you as wildly successful as you can be. Successful in business, sales, marketing, family, your work … whatever! We want to share a powerful little known but HUGELY impactful success secret:

The Law of Fatal Attraction.

Law of Fatal Attraction is basically a trance like state where you are pulled into something you know is wrong, dangerous or futile … and then … doomed by the very thing you knew you should of avoided.

Probably the simplest example of this success secret is car racing.

Whereby grizzled veterans tell the rookie:

(after he hit the wall)

“The car goes where the eyes go kid…”

[insert snickering]

Car hitting wall is a classic Fatal Attraction Scenario.

Let’s Break it Down

Rookie approaches corner a little fast, he became fearful, focused on not hitting the wall, his eyes go to the wall, rookie and car follows.

His focus should have been on shooting up the gap with a bit more acceleration and coming out clean on the other side.

Sound familiar?

It should …

Fatal Attractions exist in Business and Life too.

“Where the Mind Goes the Body Will Follow”

-Arnold Schwarzenegger

Like the rookie, we all have those walls/places (real and perceived) that suck us in like a Death Star Tractor Beam and we crash and burn …

Professional athletes, Coaches and Successful Etrepreneurs will tell you that the trick is not looking … er … not seeing in your mind… that place you don’t want to go.

Success Secret: FATAL ATTRACTION EXAMPLES

  • Thinking your competition is gaining on you so you start thinking you are not good enough (downward spiral begins here)
  • A disastrous presentation that you repeat over and over in your head -that you have not even given yet!? Heck, you didn’t even start putting it together?
  • An uncompromising boss or co-worker that you dwell on so much that you lose sleep and get nothing done
  • Being indecisive because in your mind it’s safer than making a decision and being wrong
  • Playing the what if game: “What if we don’t get the money, what if the supplier does not come thru, what if I look foolish, what if … what if … what if …”
  • Joining in on the gossip, negative talk and rumors (cause its easier) takes you away from the very thing you know you ought to be doing
  • You have a bad day and let it be an excuse to check out mentally. The day turns to weeks, weeks to months.
  • We could go on …

There are thousands of Fatal Attractions and it’s different one’s for different people.

Good news is –once you have identified them — they are an easy fix.

Success Secret: How to Avoid Fatal Attractions

Step 1: Have a Plan

You had a purpose, vision, mission, goal before you started on this journey. Keep that firmly in mind as you navigate troubled waters and begin doubting yourself.

Note: If you do not have a plan. That’s a problem. Get one.

Step 2: Visualize

In context of your end goal (and it’s many steps within) visualize yourself, perfectly executing –that one next step– the one step that get’s you closer (even if it’s just a little) to your final goal.

Don’t have steps? Break down your plan into actionable steps– from beginning to end.

Step 3: Execute

Armed with the above, be like the Olympic Athlete. Take a deep breath and clear all else from your mind but the task in front of you. You’ve been here before. You know where you are going and know this is the next step to get you there. Fatal Attractions be damned!

Step 4: Repeat

Practice makes perfect 🙂

LOGIC:

It is the mind that see’s. Your eye’s confirm. The way you see the world is based upon your imagination or prediction of the world. You will see and get the things you expect to see and get. Might as well make them good ones! Settle for nothing less.

BONUS:

  • Get this right and you are REALLY going to stand out among the people looking in. You will be focused, determined, resolved, unwavering … a leader.
  • By visualizing and executing — forward–one step at a time–you are going to be AMAZINGLY productive. Some of the greatest Novelists wrote for just 15 minutes a day and turned out a novel every year. Sometimes their 15 minutes turned into 150 minutes and more. Sometimes not. But they at least got in 15 minutes a day. What can you do in 15 minutes to move you towards your goal.
  • To begin is all we ask. Because it is here you will make the greatest discoveries about yourself and grow. You will also discover opportunities you never knew existed– and had you not begun the quest–you would have never seen them at all.

Helpful Hints:

  • Having a firm goal and a plan of execution (steps) is paramount
  • In a plan it’s okay to visit legitmate threats so you are prepared for them. After that, don’t give them another thought.
  • Proverbs 4: 23-26 “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. Keep your mouth free of perversity; keep corrupt talk far from your lips. Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your way”
  • When you visualize executing your next step use all five senses.
  • When visualization is done with intention the mind cannot tell the difference between imagining it and the ACTUAL execution (so take as many practice runs as you like … it can only help)
  • Your favorite music can help to really anchor your success in this process
  • If the negative Nellies keep reminding you about the walls you might crash into? You can simply say, ” I prefer not to waste energy looking where I don’t want to go.”

Go get em’ tiger!
